THE BARD & THE BIRD
METRO CONCERT SERIES # 3

Bard-and-the-Bird+NO+LOGO+small.jpg

Over the years BPO has worked with Chen Yang to tick off many of our mutual ‘bucket list’ musical works. We are pleased to have Chen conduct us again in 2019 as we tick off another item: Stravinsky’s brilliant Firebird Suite. Sibelius’ brooding tone poem The Bard provides a contrast to the infectious backwards dance rhythms of Copland’s suite from Rodeo with its famous Hoedown. This concert also features the winner of our 2019 Concerto Competition which this year is themed ‘String Classics’ and will see the performance of a famous classical-era string concerto.

SUNDAY 29 SEPTEMBER, 3PM
OLD MUSEUM CONCERT HALL, BOWEN HILLS

Conductor: Chen Yang

Soloist: Cameron Hough (Violin)

PROGRAM:
Aaron Copland | Four Dance Episodes from ‘Rodeo’
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Violin Concerto No.5 in A major, K.219
Jean Sibelius | The Bard (tone poem for orchestra)
Igor Stravinsky | The Firebird – Suite for orchestra (1919)
