Take an exciting journey across Europe in this excursion of eminent masterpieces - featuring Australia's favourite, Bizet's "Carmen" - as we raise funds for Brisbane's homeless and most disadvantaged citizens.

Every year for the fourth year running the BPO has partnered with the Lord Mayor's Community Trust in raising funds for Brisbane's homeless and most disadvantaged citizens.  This year we excitedly present a trans-European holiday of diverse works for orchestra and guitar.

We welcome Brisbane locals Tony Vandermeer (guitar) and Leo McFadden (conductor).  As well as being two of Queensland's foremost music education specialists, these two charismatic individuals enjoy illustrious and successful careers as performers.

Our journey begins in 18th-century Spain with the energetic and spirited Marriage of Figaro Overture by Mozart.  Staying in Spain, we encounter Rodrigo's lesser-heard "Fantasia for a Gentle-man" for guitar and orchestra which is undoubtedly just as beautiful, expressive, and technically demanding as his famous Concerto de Aranjuez.

Moving on in time, we experience the Romantic wonders of the German psyche in Schubert's brilliant masterpiece, the famous Unfinished Symphony.  We also feature a very secret little gem of music.  Romanian composer George Enescu wrote two amazing Romanian Rhapsodies and we are excited to finally be able to present his first rhapsody, a long-time request by a very special BPO member, Gabriel Dumitru.

Australia's Favourite French Music!

We return to Spain (albeit in a very "French" style) for Bizet's captivating and well-known Carmen Suite, voted by you as Australia's favourite French piece in the ABC's Classic 100 Music of France.
