Artistic Support

The BPO is a leads the way toward enriching our creative community.  Collaborative ventures have long-since featured in our programmes.

The organisation partners with musical and non-musical artists as part of its vision to create a more sustainable community arts scene and to further engage the wider community through the arts.

The BPO has worked with some of the most talented local and international artists. These include didgeridoo player William Barton, violinist James Cuddeford, mezzo-soprano Deborah Humble, tenor Rosario La Spina, and cellist Markus Stocker.

The orchestra has also worked as a presenting partner with associations such as the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, 4MBS Classic FM, the Brisbane Festival, and the Queensland Music Festival. The BPO also maintains strong links with leading educational institutions and organisations such as the University of Queensland and the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

Important Information

The BPO receives increasing numbers of requests from soloists and groups to perform with the orchestra every year.  We have compiled this list to help prospective artistic partners plan their proposals before contacting the orchestra.

  • The BPO is not a professional orchestra. Prospective artists and composers should be available for anywhere between three to five weeks prior to a performance to attend regular rehearsals with the orchestra.
  • Intending soloists and groups should be aware that the BPO is unable to pay airfares, accommodation, or professional performance fees without special funds being secured from sponsors for these purposes.
  • The orchestra's repertoire is planned about one to two years ahead to ensure adequate rehearsal and performance venue availability, member availability, and timely marketing and preparation.
  • The BPO has an Australian or ‘local talent first’ policy but does not exclude expressions of interest from abroad.
  • For composers who would like the BPO to perform one of their compositions, we suggest you contact us to discuss the work with us first. Please do not send a CD sample or score in the first instance.
