From the Musical Director

Welcome to Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2010 season - my first after being appointed as its Musical Director at the end of last year. 2010 also marks the BPO’s tenth annual season.

The BPO’s first subscription concert features arguably Dvorak’s finest symphony and the orchestra’s Principal Bassoon, Sarah Wagner, playing Weber’s virtuosic concerto.

Renowned Queensland artists - John Curro, David Lale and Christine Ferraro - take starring roles as BPO celebrates major anniversaries of Mahler and Schumann as part of the 4MBS Festival of Classics.

An all Tchaikovsky program, featuring Perth-based violinist Rebecca White, will undoubtedly be very popular. Come and experience the full romantic and emotional spectrum of this ever popular composer’s “Pathétique” symphony.

BPO closes it subscription year with Brahms’ masterful second symphony. It is ably supported by Anthony Ritchie’s Flute Concerto as BPO continues its quest to show off the work of Australian and New Zealand composers. Again, we partner with the Lord Mayor's Community Trust to donate 20% of our ticket sales income to support those that depend on the trust.

Come along and join BPO on a wonderful and varied musical journey this year - “Discover 2010!”.
